《新概念英语》之教学特色

再从单词角度,新概念课本也注重了用循序渐进的方法,不断帮助学生重复、加深印象。比如“descend”一词在新概念英语第三册中前前后后以各种形式出现4次:首先是第41课Illusions of pastoral peace宁静田园生活的遐想一文中,在“Few things could be more impressive than the peace that descends on deserted city streets at weekends when the thousands that travel to work every day are tucked away in their homes in the country.” 周末,当成千上万进城上班的人回到他们的乡间寓所之后,空旷的街市笼罩着一种宁静气氛,没有什么能比此时的宁静更令人难忘了。”该句子中表示“气氛的笼罩”。第二次出现是在第42课Modern cavemen现代洞穴人一文中,在“It can take as long as eight days to rig up rope ladders and to establish supply bases before a descent can be made into a very deep cave. 有时需要花费整整8天时间来搭起绳梯,建立供应基地,然后才能到一个很深的洞穴里。”该句子中表示“沿着….往下爬”。 第三次出现是在第48课The silent village 沉默的村庄一文中,在“On the day before our departure several bus loads of tourists descended on the town . 我们离开小镇的前一天,镇上来了几辆满载游客的公共汽车。”该句子中表示“人或事情(突然)降临”。 最后一次出现是在第60课Too early and too late 太早和太晚一文中,在“If no accidents occur on the way, like punctured tyres, diversions of traffic, sudden descent of fog, they will be on time. 要是路上没有发生如爆胎、改道、突然起雾等意外事故,他们决不会迟到。”该句子中表示“突然起雾或降雨降雪”。通过几个回合的结合书本复习,更能帮助学生有效全面地记忆这个单词的用法。

再比如考虑到学生很容易混淆prompt和punctual这两个单词,新概念英语第三册整本书也帮助学生反复巩固,任课老师也应该充分利用作者的用心良苦。大多数情况下prompt更多表示“及时、马上”,而“punctual”则表示“准时”。在第14课A noble gangster 贵徒一文中,在“If the money was not paid promptly, the gangsters would quickly put a man out of business by destroying his shop. 如果交款不及时,歹徒们就会很快捣毁他的商店,让他破产.榨取"保护金"并不是一种现代的罪恶行径.”在第19课A very dear cat 一只贵重的宝贝猫一文中“At first, she decided to go to the police, but fearing that she would never see Rastus again --the letter had made that quite clear--she changed her mind. She withdrew &1000 from her bank and followed the kidnapper‘s instructions. The next morning, the box had disappeared but Mrs Ramsay was sure that the kidnapper would keep his word. In ordinary living, there can be some tolerance of unpunctuality. But people are often reproached for unpunctuality when their only fault is cutting things fine. The over-punctual can be as much a trial to others as the unpunctual. 准时是文明社会中进行一切社交活动时必须养成的习惯。在日常生活中人们可以容忍一定程度的不准时。但有些人不准时常常因为掐钟点所致,他们常常受到责备。早到的人同迟到的人一样令人讨厌。客人提前半小时到达是令人讨厌的。

任课老师可以在相应的文章里出现相应的知识点时给学生及时复习。捷克教育家夸美纽斯在《大教学论》中提出了循环扩展的教材编排形式,他认为“同一课题的教学可以随着学生年龄的增长和理解程度的加深逐步扩大教材的广度,增加教材的深度”,比如在第52课Mud is mud 实事求是里,可以帮助学生延伸拓展prompt一词的更深层的意思“敦促”—— Harry does not need to be prompted to explain how he bought his precious bottle of mud.无须暗示哈里就会向你讲起他买下那瓶珍贵香泥的经过。

这就是循环拓展之特点在《新概念英语》中的体现,类似的内容安排在几个不同的教学阶段,但它们逐步延伸拓展,大大加深了知识点的复现率,符合记忆、学习的规律,有利于学生掌握。
